A new destroyer design was originally started by Russian shipbuilders in the 1970s, employing a new 130mm automatic gun turret.
This class of ships were 156 meters (512 ft) in length, with a beam of 17.3 meters (56 ft 9 in) and a draft of 6.5 meters (21 ft 4 in).
The Chinese Navy had commissioned two modified Russian Sovremenny-class destroyers, with the Hangzhou (after which this replica is modeled) delivered in December 1999. In 2002, they ordered two improved versions designated 956-EM. The first vessel was launched in late 2005, while the second was launched in 2006. All were commissioned to the East Sea Fleet.
Recreated in 1\/275 scale and resulting in a model over 30” (780mm) long, this vessel is ideally suited for display or sailing.
