Among the US fighters of WWII, the P-51 Mustang is one of the most widely known. The Red Tail scheme was made famous by the incomparable Tuskegee Airmen who were the first African American soldiers to successfully complete their training and enter the Army Air Corps and became widely regarded as some of the finest pilots of the entire war.
