Triphala is one of the best known and most important Ayurvedic preparations Indian, whose name literally means "three fruits" (tri-phala) as it is made up of combination of the fruits of three plants commonly used medicines in India, such as amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki, also known as emblica, terminalia bellerica and black myrobalan, or also called the “three myrobolans”. Amalaki exerts atonic-adaptogenic action, supports the natural body's defenses, has a antioxidant function, promotes the carbohydrate metabolism, contributes to the gastric acidity control and, together with bibhitaki and haritaki, promotes the liver function. Haritaki also supports the digestive function and assists the regularity of the sweating process while with the bibhitaki it favors the regularity of intestinal transit. Bibhitaki, finally, contributes to normal lipid metabolism.
