HISTORY ASPECTS:The Sd.Kfz. 9 also known as the 18-ton FAMO (Fahrzeug für All-Mechanisierte Ordnungen) was a German heavy half-track vehicle used during World War II. Developed in the late 1930s the FAMO was designed to serve as a prime mover for heavy artillery pieces such as the 88mm Flak 36 as well as other large military equipment like the 170mm howitzers and tank transporters. Powered by a robust 12-cylinder engine the FAMO had exceptional towing capabilities making it one of the most versatile and important vehicles in the Wehrmachts logistics and combat support operations. Its impressive off-road performance allowed it to handle the rough terrain found in various theaters of operation from the muddy fields of the Soviet Union to the mountainous regions of Italy.The Sd.Kfz. 9 FAMO saw extensive service in both the Eastern and Western Fronts during the war.
