Jakob built his vast fortune in just a few short years, leaving behind assets worth two million guilders ($300 billion today) making him one of the richest men who ever lived! On this walking tour around Augsburg’s old town, Jakob will show you St. Anne’s Church where you can see the Fugger’s crypt, the family’s first company headquarters where the “Golden Scriptorium” was once located, and one of the most famous of the Fugger buildings, their City Palace. You’ll also have an opportunity to see Königsplatz where one of the old city gates, the Gögginger Tor, once stood, to explore the Townhall Square, Rathausplatz, and to take in the place where Jakob was born. Along the way, you’ll hear about how the Fuggers made their money, the family’s connection to royalty, and how the women were every bit as savvy when it came to business. This 2km tour is suitable for people with slight mobility handicaps. There are plenty of places to stop along the way for a drink or a snack while Jakob recounts the stories of his youth. *__Please note:__ that this tour does not include a visit to the Fuggerei, the world’s oldest social housing complex which is still in use today.
