HISTORY ASPECTS:The USAF SR-71B Blackbird tail number 17956 was part of the prestigious 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing (SRW) and earned the nickname "Gumby" during its operational service. The SR-71B was designed for high-speed high-altitude reconnaissance missions and it remains one of the most advanced aircraft ever built. Its first flight was in 1966 and it quickly established a reputation for its incredible speed and altitude capabilities able to fly at over 2200 miles per hour and reach altitudes of 85000 feet. This made it virtually untouchable by enemy defenses during the Cold War allowing it to gather vital intelligence without significant risk.Gumby served with distinction conducting numerous reconnaissance missions over hostile territories providing invaluable intelligence for military operations.
