HISTORY ASPECTS:The Avro Lancaster B.III a British four-engined heavy bomber was one of the most renowned aircraft of World War II. Developed by Avro as a development of the earlier Manchester bomber the Lancaster first flew in 1941 and quickly became a crucial component of the Royal Air Forces (RAF) Bomber Command. The B.III variant introduced in late 1942 was equipped with Packard-built Merlin engines and featured various improvements in avionics and bomb-carrying capacity.The Lancaster B.III saw extensive service during the strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany. It was instrumental in numerous significant bombing raids including the infamous "Dambusters" raid of May 1943 where modified Lancasters of No. 617 Squadron led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson breached the dams of the Ruhr Valley using specially designed bouncing bombs.
