HISTORY ASPECTS:The Panzerkampfwagen 35(t) originally developed as the Czechoslovak LT vz. 35 was adopted by Nazi Germany after the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939. Produced by Škoda and ???KD the light tank was considered advanced for its time featuring a 37mm main gun a 49mm-thick frontal armor plate and a reliable Praga engine. Once absorbed into the Wehrmacht it was designated Pz.Kpfw.35(t) with the “(t)” standing for tschechisch (Czech) acknowledging its origin.Pz.Kpfw.35(t) played a key role in early World War II campaigns. During the Invasion of Poland in 1939 the tank performed well against Polish forces providing mobile armored support to Germany’s fast-moving divisions. It was again employed during the Battle of France in 1940 where its agility and firepower proved sufficient against Allied light armor. However mechanical reliability in cold climates and insufficient armor against newer enemy tanks began to highlight the platform’s limitations.The tank’s final major service was in Operation Barbarossa the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941.
