When I was growing up in Belfast, the Titanic was something that wasn’t talked about much. There was a sense of both defiance and shame about the loss of the great ship, and the most you’d hear was a muttered “She was all right when she left here”. This all changed when James Cameron's blockbuster Titanic hit the cinemas. This walking tour takes you right into the heart of Belfast’s dynamic Titanic Quarter. You’ll learn about the origins of the city’s shipbuilding industry, stand on the slipway where Titanic was built and hear how new industries like film and TV production are making their mark on Belfast. Along the way, you’ll also hear stories about: • The SS Nomadic, the last surviving ship of the White Star line, and its unique link to Titanic • Harland & Wolff, the company who built the ship, whose former headquarters are now the Titanic Hotel • Titanic Experience, the world’s largest Titanic exhibition • The Glass of Thrones installations and Titanic Studios • HMS Caroline • The mighty Titanic Dock This 30-minute tour starts at the entrance to W5 overlooking the Belfast Marina. There are cafes and a supermarket at the Titanic Kit sculpture, and a cafe at the Alexandra Dock which is due to re-open. If you want to visit any of the attractions along the route, check opening times and admission details.
