The USS Hornet (CV-8) was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1941. It played a pivotal role in early World War II naval operations. One of its most famous contributions was launching the Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942, where 16 B-25 bombers, led by Lt. Col. James Doolittle, took off from its deck for a daring attack on Tokyo. This raid provided a significant morale boost for the U.S. after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Hornet was also instrumental in the Battle of Midway (June 1942), one of the most decisive naval battles in history, where American forces crippled Japan’s carrier fleet. Later, it participated in the Guadalcanal campaign, supporting U.S. Marines and engaging in key battles like the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
Despite its successes, the USS Hornet was heavily damaged during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands on October 26, 1942, after being struck by bombs and torpedoes from Japanese aircraft. Efforts to save the ship failed, and it was abandoned before being sunk by Japanese destroyers. The Hornet’s legacy lived on for the duration of the war, as its service contributed significantly to the eventual U.S. victory in the Pacific theater.

Bancroft scale RC boats are fragile so care should be taken when moving or transporting your model.
Some of the electronics in this Bancroft boat, including the Battery, ESC, Motor, and Receiver, are NOT intended to get wet; they are NOT water resistant. If any of these electronic components get wet and you attempt to operate your model, the water can cause an electrical short-circuit and void your warranty. In the rare instance that you get water inside your vessel, you should drain the water completely and allow all electronics to fully dry before attempting to operate your model.
