Adelaide: A Queer History Tour

This one-hour walking tour takes you on a journey through Adelaide's queer identity from wartime until today. You’ll discover how the gay rights movement was sparked by the death of George Duncan, and hear about the ups and downs that eventually led to widespread queer acceptance and reform in South Australia. Adelaide played a crucial role in creating the social freedoms enjoyed in Australian society today, and this walking tour aims to share that history with you. We’ll follow most of Adelaide’s Pride March route, with local tour guide, Katina, revealing the stories of past, present, and emerging queer icons like Sia, Don Dunstan and Ian Purcell along the way. She’ll also show you the city’s hot or historic queer nightclubs as you walk. Adelaide's queer history is mysterious, intriguing, and tragic – but ultimately hopeful, as we move further forward into a progressive 21st century.
