The BMW E24 is the first 6 Series in history. Introduced to the German manufacturers catalogue in 1976 it quickly established itself as a standard. This luxurious coupé replaced the BMW E9. While its design remained in the pure tradition of the period (simple and elegant) its conception was an industrial challenge. It was based on an E12 5 Series and got its engines from its catalogue sisters. This coupé was a real commercial success for BMW! The sports versions added to the popularity of this 6 Series. The M6 version was the most powerful with 286bhp and an official top speed of 255km/h - impressive for its time!
